Intercultural awareness is essential for avoiding misunderstandings
and misperceptions and allowing for open dialogue between
people of mixed cultural backgrounds, particularly if they
are supposed to jointly solve problems in a work or educational
context.
This training aims at promoting intercultural awareness
through a mix of input, games and exercises. With a fun
and easy approach to the issue we allow for a reflection
of one’s own perceptions and behavioural patterns,
and at the same time encourage open and lively discussion
between people from different backgrounds.
There are games and other activities in which the entire
group participates, but also discussions in smaller groups
in which those not willing to speak in front of large groups
can articulate their thoughts, and in which more sensitive
and delicate questions can be addressed.
After the workshop, students should have gained some insights
into:
what cultural differences are,
how they are a matter of perception,
what problems they could encounter in other cultural
environments and possible ways of dealing with them
