Our online simulation game platform Senaryon is used for a wide range of target groups - from students to professionals. Its use in a university context has also proved particularly successful.

For example, students of International Business Administration at the Euro UAS in Hamburg are taking part in the online simulation game "Green Europe? Lobbying in the European Union based on the example of climate policy". For completing the game, students even receive 6 ECTS points. After all, the two-week online simulation game has been a regular part of the degree programme for several years.

The simulation game is structured asynchronously, i.e. the individual phases last several days. During this time, the students complete tasks, chat with each other, develop drafts and prepare decisions. They do not necessarily have to be online at the same time. Participants are free to organise their time as they wish - a great advantage for students with a heavy workload or those who have a family or an additional job.

Part of the developed content is assessed. The moderation area of Senaryon is particularly important in this respect. Lecturers can use the assignment system to observe and assess the students' activities and contributions. Furthermore, the linking of the game experience with the evaluation phase consolidates the learning process and contributes to applying theoretical knowledge by means of a concrete example.

The project has already been running for several years. Regular evaluations, high participation levels and well-attended seminars prove this innovative approach right: the students are active far beyond the lecturing hours, working together to develop a regulation to reduce greenhouse gases in transport.

We also run similar projects with other degree programmes at home and abroad, e.g. at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder, at the FernUniversität Hagen or as part of the European Studies Masters of CIFE in Brussels and Nice. The use of online simulation games is particularly suitable in international cooperation projects comprising several universities. For example, we regularly accompany a simulation game with students from the Georg-August University of Göttingen, the University of Antwerp and the University of Krakow: the students are geographically separated by hundreds of miles, but thanks to Senaryon they can still participate in a simulation game at the same time.
